Top 5 European Road Trips
The Alps
Winter sports or summer hikes, the Alps have so much to offer. Crossing eight different countries, you’re sure to find everything you’re looking for in a road trip. Take time to plan your perfect itinerary, and it definitely won’t disappoint.
The Amalfi Coast
This UNESCO World Heritage Site stretches 50km along the Italian coast, passing through towns, villages, stunning ocean vistas and lush greenery. Summer can get very busy, so the best time to visit is Spring or late October into November.
Paris to Berlin
The city-slickers dream. As well as making the most of your time on either side of this journey, there are plenty of scenic stops along the way. The journey directly will take you about 10 hours. Perfect for a long weekend, or add in some classic German towns and villages for a road trip to remember.
Surfers Dream: Porto to Asturias
Beach bums rejoice – Portugal and Spain are packed with coastal roads taking you from one surfing destination to another. Be sure to make time to explore the stunning towns, and soak up all the local culture.
Transfagarasan Highway, Romania
Short and sweet, but definitely one for the bucket list. You might recognise it from its appearance on Top Gear, which turned it into one of Romania’s most popular tourist destinations. The best (and only) time to visit is during summer, as the road is closed in winter due to heavy snow.
Travelling within the EU with a subscription vehicle
Once you’ve decided on your next adventure, let us help sort out your vehicle paperwork for you. If you do plan on travelling within the EU, please let your Pivotal representative know as soon as possible, and no later than 7 days before your planned departure.
Tell us about your trip at least 14 days prior to your travel so we can arrange the required documentation for you. This is so you can prove you have permission to drive a Pivotal vehicle in a European country.
Until you have received our permission, the vehicle must stay in the UK. Our Pivotal insurance providers have a maximum limit of 30 consecutive days for travel in the EU, so make sure you have plenty of time to return home.
You should also return to the UK no later than 14 days before your scheduled Vehicle return date, which you can find on your Order Confirmation.
Please send an email to [email protected] with the following information:
- Departure and return date
- A list of countries you plan to drive in
- Registration number
- Make of the vehicle
- Drivers to be covered
- Whether you plan on towing anything
Once we’ve got this information, we will endeavour to provide you with the following document within 14 days;
VE103B Certificate
You’ll need a VE103 vehicle on hire certificate – which is similar to the V5 proof of ownership document – to show you’re allowed to use a hired or leased vehicle if you’re driving it abroad.
GB stickers and number plates
You must also display a UK sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle.
